The Bulls drafted who?
This guy?
This guy looks like he eats children.
Being that the Sox are having trouble getting any production out of anywhere on the field, it’s probably time to start thinking about 2008’s outfield. Centerfield, specifically, is a problem and something the Sox will need to address next offseason. In preparation for a piece tomorrow on the 2008 Sox lineup (and because MLB Trade Rumors already did it, kind of), let’s take a look at the Sox’ options for next year. (more…)
The second half of the city series begins today, with the Cubs traveling south to The Cell. It should be a weekend of good pitching matchups, as the Cubs are sending their best/hottest starters to the hill: (more…)
First, we have Ken Williams’ appearance on PTI. (it’s a ways into the mp3). Williams sounds pretty positive that the Sox won’t hold a fire sale, but that seems a little foolish to me. The Sox really need to reload an aging team and thin farm system and the best way to do that is sell, sell, sell.
Also, BP.com has a blog piece by Bryan Smith documenting many of the team’s recent losses. It’s a depressing look at the bullpen woes Ozzie continues to harp about.
Jim Hendry seems to make two kinds of trades. There are the brilliant ones, the ones that send the likes of Hee-Seop Choi, Francis Beltran, Brendan Harris, Bobby Hill and Jose Hernandez for the likes of Aramis Ramirez, Kenny Lofton, Derrek Lee, Nomar Garciaparra and Matt Murton. Then there are the mind-bogglingly stupid ones, the ones that send the likes of Greg Maddux, Kyle Farnsworth, Sammy Sosa, Ricky Nolasco, and Dontrelle Willis for the likes of Juan Pierre, Jerry Hairston Jr., David Cruthers, Cesar Izturis, and Roberto Novoa.
The Cubs trade of Michael Barrett to the Padres is, unquestionably and unfortunately, one of the latter. (more…)
Obviously there is bigger news in Cub Nation today, but before I comment on Cubby Brawl II (Son of Cubby Brawl), I would like to comment on the Cubs’ recent demotion of Matt Murton. I know this happened earlier this week, and I admit it’s long overdue, but you’re going to have to forgive me, as “long overdue” are going to be words synonymous with my posts over the coming weeks and months as I pack up my life and move to Syracuse to attend graduate school. (more…)
We haven’t had any of these in a while, but I wanted to take my mind off the reeling Sox (one win in six games will do that you a fan) and write about my current favorite player: Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder. (more…)
Last year I paid a tremendous amount of attention to the MLB Amateur Draft, mostly because it was a tremendously deep draft class. Luke Hochevar, Evan Longoria, Brad Lincoln, and Andrew Miller were all big names in the top ten last year, and the #10 pick, Tim Lincecum, has already made his MLB debut and appears to be the real thing. This year’s draft class isn’t nearly as deep. Due to that, as well as the fact that I’m trying to get my life organized to go to graduate school at the end of this month, I just haven’t read and learned as much about the draft this year as I did last year. However, since the Cubs did have the number three pick in the draft, it would have been pretty lame of me to not mention it at all. I’ll talk about the Cubs’ draft pick, Josh Vitters, as well as ESPN’s historic coverage of the draft – the first one televised in baseball history – but first, let’s check up on how the Cubs’ big-name draft picks from last year are doing: (more…)
By now, you’ve certainly heard about Gary Sheffield’s recent comments about the prevalence of Latin players in baseball vs. the prevalence of African American players. (more…)
