So many handsome men

Henry Abbott, in a recent post on the wonderful TrueHoop, wrote something about what makes a quality blog. All of his points are excellent, but I wanted to point out one that’s especially prescient: (more…)

Forty-four ABs into his time on the White Sox, but a home run nonetheless.

We finally have an answer to the “Rexstacy or Neckbeard?” question

On a day in which rampant speculation was brewing about a Chicagoan approaching the presidency, the Cubs had an off day and the Sox took over first place (probably not for long), the real news came out of Halas Hall. Bear fans, meet your 2008 starting QB: (more…)

Breaking News: The Cubs are Really Good.

Filed under: Cubs — Jacob Shorr @ 11:13 pm

It’s kind of hard to write a blog when your team keeps on winning. The Cubs have won 15 of 18 overall. They also have won 9 in a row on the road to get back to .500 on road games. The offense is really good. The pitching is pretty good. The defense is pretty good. I mean, yeesh, this team is really good. Um, hurray?

I don’t even know how else to say? The Cubs came back in dramatic fashion tonight, defeating the piece of shit Marlins finally. Fuck those guys. I hate the Marlins. Stupid expansion team, winning two World Series. (Actually, I shouldn’t bad mouth them, because clearly anytime I badmouth someone, such as Daryle Ward or Jim Edmonds, they prove me wrong.) Anyway, Daryle Ward hit a home run in the 9th inning and the Cubs won. Sweet.

So yeah, that is it. The Cubs are good. They lead MLB in walks. They are going to take over 600 walks this year. They already have over 100 more walks this year than all of 2007. That is crazy.

So, in summation, since I never did a mideason report card, I am going to give the Cubs an A for All Around Awesomeness. We are watching a historic, almost unprecedented Cubs team, one not built around a single tent pole player, but really around the entire team, and it is a lot of fun and I am really enjoying it. Cubs rule, Sox drool.

I was in Chicago over the previous weekend, partially to enjoy some vacation time and partially to collect on a bet. We went to the game Sunday and the Sox did win. (more…)

The predatory links of the palisades are out to get us!

Filed under: White Sox, Bears — R.J. @ 2:55 pm

Sunday (aka “Nick Swisher Bobblehead Day”) will be the first Sox game at Comiskey I’ve seen since I moved. As I’ve mentioned, I’m there to collect on the annual blood feud bet and I’ll be happy to see Shorr in a (White) Sox hat. (more…)

1997 called and said “good trade”

It’s a day late, but I think there are several layers to the Ken Griffey trade. I’ll try to take them by order of actual import to baseball and the Sox going forward. (more…)

Cubs Smack Brewers!

Filed under: Cubs, Bears — Jacob Shorr @ 1:09 am

So the Cubs whooped on the Brewers, sweeping a four game series in Milwaukee. I would call it Wrigleyville North, but that is really stupid. I hate that. Less of that please. |inline
