Sox and Cubs representatives at next week’s draft

Filed under: Cubs, White Sox, General baseball — R.J. @ 2:22 pm

For anyone who watched the NBA draft lottery last week, you know that teams have to have a representative at the lottery. Now that baseball is televising part of their draft (it used to be a giant conference call), apparently, they need to have team representatives there to make the picks, maybe? (more…)

Apparently, Pablo Ozuna is Babe Ruth

Pablo Ozuna broke his right fibula and tore a ligament in his ankle Sunday after he hit a double. Pablo Ozuna is a utility player, appearing at shortstop, left field, second and third base this season. Pablo Ozuna has a career batting line of .286/.322/.361. Fun with the Sox’ future

I wrote about the problems with the Sox, both long- and short-term last month. The Sox are currently four and a half games out of first in what looks like the toughest division in baseball. We’re two months into the season, so I won’t say it’s time to raise the white flag yet, but with a team last in the AL in runs scored, something needs to give. (more…)

Batgirl to spend more time with family

One of the cool things about the online baseball (specifically blogging) community is how nice cordial everyone is towards one another. Between the people at BP.com, Rob Neyer (with whom I’ve exchanged e-mails a bunch of times) and other bloggers, it’s always fun to talk baseball with people on the other side of the country.

Though I hate the Twins, the class of Twins bloggers has always been Batgirl. In terms of frequent posting (an underrated skill, believe me), good writing and creativity, there is no one who does what Batgirl does. (more…)

Ernie Banks Statue

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 2:02 pm

In the last few years the Cubs have made big moves to honor their all-time greats, with the retiring of Ron Santo’s number in 2003 and retiring Ryne Sandberg’s number in 2005. Now they’re going to further immortalize Ernie Banks (whose #14 is already retired on the left field foul pole) with a statue, which will be ready for opening day 2008. (more…)

Only at U.S. Cellular Field…

Filed under: White Sox — Taft @ 1:07 pm

I was at the Sox game last night, and was waiting in line for a hot dog. The guy behind me was wearing a t-shirt that said “Strippers Love My Pole,” a fine example of the type of classy, witty t-shirt one is likely to see a Sox fan wearing at a game. As I got my hot dog and was silently and snobbily mocking this gentleman, the lady manning the hot dog stand told the guy that she “loved” his shirt.

White Sox Pride, right Sox fans?

Hark! The link angels sing!

In the post-blood feud lull, it’s best to just compile some links for the discerning Sox reader. (more…)

To Close or Not to Close?

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 3:53 pm

Ryan Dempster doesn’t know if he’s going to close or start. Neither does Lou Piniella. Really, he shouldn’t be doing either (Wuertz or Howry are the best relievers on the team, and one of them should be closing), but that’s getting ahead of ourselves. (more…)

The party’s over

Ben Wallace

I still have undying love for Luol Deng, but the Bulls’ season has sadly, ended. Let’s hope that the Bulls can trade for Pau Gasol or Kevin Garnett in the offseason.
