A Hall of Fame Case for Ron Santo (Revisited)

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 12:11 pm

The Hall of Fame Veteran’s Committee will announce today whether or not Ron Santo has been elected to the Hall. I was a little ahead of the game when I published this post on Santo back in December, so I have decided to reprint it here today.

However, before the reprint, check out some of the good analysis of Santo’s career and his hall of fame chances out there in the Baseball Tubes: (more…)

Two new entrants into the fifth starter’s race

Mark Gonzalez is a total moron, so I don’t normally give him much credit for anything, but he’s in Arizona, whereas I’m sitting in an office on the banks of the Potomac River. Clearly, I’m not well-connected to the Sox in any way, so I missed two projection guys for the Sox pitching staff. (more…)

Thankfully, Juan Uribe is a free man

Sort of. The Sox shortstop will not be charged with any of the sturm and drang around the October shooting of an Italian military officer in the Dominican Republic regarding his Jeep. But, apparently, there is more to that than meets the eye. (more…)

Fun with White Sox projections part two: Hitters

Fun with Cubs Projections Part 2: Hitters

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 5:53 pm

Last week I looked at PECOTA and ZiPS projections for pitchers. This week the hitters report, so now it’s time to look at the projections for the offense. I’ll be looking at projections for Batting Average, On-Base Percentage, Slugging Percentage, Homers, Walk to Strikeout ratio, and Stolen Bases/Caught Stealing where applicable (sorry, Grimace). (more…)

Five questions for the 2007 White Sox as pitchers and catchers report

Last year, I asked five questions for the Sox pitchers and catchers as they reported to Spring Training. I will do the same this year in the same format, as Sox pitchers and catchers report tomorrow. (more…)

Taft did this earlier in the week with the Cubs, so in anticipation of the Sox arriving in Florida on Saturday, here is the Sox pitching staff and their projections. (more…)

Cleaning up some Sox notes

With the Sox pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training this weekend, I figured I would tie up some loose ends that have occured over the last couple of weeks. Nothin worthy of a piece in itself, but good for a short (very short) notes post. (more…)
