Nickname me: Tony Womack

We haven’t done it since November. but it is time for more fun with nicknames!

Our new subject is Dusty’s newest waterbug, Tony Womack. We’ve got a few suggestions for his nickname over to the right with a new poll. The poll isn’t exactly binding, but we’ll try to spread the nickname throughout baseball.

Of course, if you think our nicknames are crappy, you can always e-mail us with suggestions.

The Fourth Sign of the Apocalypse: The Unibrow

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 9:17 pm

On Friday, the Cubs called up Tony Womack. Womack is a second baseman whose primary skill is his speed.

Why do I feel like I’ve written this before? Oh, right.

Here are the OBPs and SLG%s of the men who have played second base for the Cubs this year (except for Ryan Theriot, who was 0-for-4 with a walk in his brief callup):

Bynum: .255/.444
Hairston: .256/.247
Perez: .227/.269
Walker: .378/.424
Womack: .367 avg/.441 obp/.467 slg (30 ABs)

Oh man, how did the Reds ever let this guy go?! He’s hitting .367! .367! (more…)

Another great Ozzie Guillen rant (uncensored)

Because of the holiday weekend (and a Sox win Sunday), a classic Ozzie Guillen rant from Saturday evening may have been lost. It is, in my opinion, his best so far, and ironic because the team had lost a whopping two games in a row, and four of the last 10. (more…)

Surveiller et punir (Discipline and punish)*

Filed under: Cubs, White Sox — R.J. @ 1:58 pm

After the excitement that was the Cubs/Sox brawl last weekend, punishment was definitely going to come down at some point. Well, MLB has spoken and it is loud and clear: Don’t fight. (more…)

Upgrade

We’re doing some software upgrading here at Snobsvsslobs.com, so if you see any bugs on the site, do not hestitate to contact us. As you can see, there is a poll over to the right and that will become a more regular feature on the site.

We appreciate your patience.

Cubs Week in Review (May 15-21)

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 12:45 pm

Last week: 3-3
Overall: 18-25, Fifth in NL Central (record as of 5/21)

I just wrote a long, extensive week in review discussing the Cubs pitching staff and prospects on the horizon that may or may not help the Cubs’ pitching staff. Then I hit the backspace button while my cursor was out of the text entry box, causing my browser to go back one page, causing me to lose all of my work. So instead of getting an in-depth interesting review this week, you will get my scattered notes: (more…)

Hurt comes back (”Stay classy, Chicago”)

Considering the reputation of White Sox fans as some of the worst in the game (not that it is unfounded), I was not expecting good things when Frank Thomas and the Oakland A’s came into U.S. Cellular field last night. (more…)

The Brawl: The Frustrated Cub Fan’s Perspective

Filed under: Cubs — Taft @ 11:43 am

That’s the last time I leave the Sox and Cubs unsupervised.

I wish I could have commented on the brouhaha before the dust had settled, but I have a very good excuse: I was out of town for my brother’s college graduation. (Congratulations, Erick!) Fortunately, Ross did an excellent (relatively unbiased) job of breaking down the brawl. (more…)

Cubs v. Sox 2006 … In quotes (Part I)

Filed under: Cubs, White Sox — R.J. @ 5:44 am

Stealing from my favorite baseball Web site, I’ve taken some interesting quotes from the series and put them together. These are all culled from the wire recaps posted on many major sites (ESPN.com, SI.com, Yahoo! Sports, etc.) or from columns by the Chicago papers. (more…)
