March Madness: My picks (via mascots)

Filed under: Nothing to do with anything — R.J. @ 7:36 am

One of the problems with the WBC as it pertains to American TV ratings is that the big-time games will be going up against March Madness. The NCAA Tournament is one of the most popular sporting events during the year and is a ratings titan. (more…)

Good work, us

Filed under: Nothing to do with anything — R.J. @ 7:13 am

It’s been a full month, and we’ve got 47 posts and three pages. Pretty good. We’ve come a long way since my dopey post about the Bulls clinching a playoff spot.

We’ve written about:
—Dusty Baker’s poor handling of the Carlos Zambrano, Mark Prior and Kerry Wood (136 pitches on May 8 for Zambrano)—Ozzie Guillen’s inability to muster even a decent offense—Ozzie’s insanityHandsome Men—Recaps of the Bulls playoff games by a guy who knows nothing about basketball—My dissatisfaction with ESPN—Taft’s love of PNC Park

I hope you keep reading in the next and coming months.

Good-looking people

Filed under: Nothing to do with anything — R.J. @ 10:51 am

I know we write mainly about sports, but this is the site with a page called “The Handsome Man Team,” so looks are important, too.

Anyway, People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People” list is out and the list includes some favorites of mine, so please, indulge me for a bit. I’ll simply go through a few who I find most important to readers of this site (connection to .sports/mentioned on the site/etc.)

1. Jessica Alba

As we’ve mentioned Handsome Man Team pages, Alba is drop-dead gorgeous. She’s clearly a site favorite for the reason that she’s the first woman mentioned on the site.
2. Tim Green I don’t know who Tim Green is, but apparently, he’s a “former NFL star and best-selling author.” I don’t think he’s particularly handsome, either. So there, Tim Green. Come back when I’ve heard of you.
3.Ann-Margret No connection to sports, this site, other than she is a proud alumna of New Trier High School. She’s 64 and looks great for the age. Must be the North Shore water.
4. David Beckham It’s hard to argue that David Beckham is a great-looking guy. In addition to his chiseled good looks, he’s got a soccer player’s body. Unlike football players (fat) or baseballers (gigantic asses), soccer players are lithe. They’re like runners, only more muscular. If only he had better hair…
5. Maria Sharapova ESPN.com did a very Lothario-ish birthday celebration for her when she turned 18, but I’m not on the Sharapova bus. She’s pretty, I guess, but Anna Kornikova is better looking.
6. Dwyane Wade I’ve been a big fan of Dwyane Wade since he sunk my Missouri Tigers in the Elite Eight back in 2003. I was an even bigger fan when he posterized Jermaine O’Neil in last year’s playoffs. I love any Chicago guy, but Wade is a particular favorite. Anyway, yeah, he’s a favorite of mine.

Wade’s selection may spur a Handsome Man basketball team. Wade would certainly be a starting guard, with Larry Hughes, who’s straight-up dreamy.
